I have been really busy getting used to being back home. It has been a large adjustment between Hong Kong to South Dakota to Atlanta. I have been really busy and not on the computer that much lately. And I have started adjusting to seeing only Westerners again. I miss Hong Kong a lot.
Yesterday I went trail running for the first time since I left for HK. I ended up only going six miles and I ended up getting and popping a blister on the bottom of my foot. Hurts like hell. Diu (Hap, that's for you).
Lots to do, lots to see. Need to clean out my room at home.

1311--Exams19 Dec, 2007 | Posted by: person63
Exams are going well, but I thought I would just post a quick entry (there is so much to catch up on, I am trying my best but clearly failing at that.
Anyways, it's been difficult because all good things must come to an end. So now I have been starting to do the hardest part of this trip--saying goodbye to the people who I have met and those who have made sure I could stay alive in China. So thank you, and hopefully I'll be able to say goodbye to everyone.
Back to P-Chem/sleep/studies.

1310--Shanghai Haircut08 Dec, 2007 | Posted by: person63
I needed a haircut, what else is there to say?
Hap took me to a place in the KC district that does Shanghai style haircuts. Part of the haircut is to give you a straight razor shave, but they recommended that I didn't get it since I was a foreigner (other foreigners don't like it because of infection risk). However one thing they did that was cool is put some blue stuff in my hair and then some clear stuff and then all of the sudden my hair was shampooed. It was definitely different than the US style haircut.
After that they styled it to look like Ronald Reagan, which was awesome. Hap laughed at me for about half the night, but he also took me to the steamed rice place again. On our way out they said \"we've had a lot of foreigners come by here lately,\" to which Hap and I laughed because my parents and I were probably the people they were speaking of.
More studying, more fun.

I'm scared.
I don't want to go back, but I don't want to stay. I don't want to leave anywhere.

1308--Every Now and Then...04 Dec, 2007 | Posted by: person63
The food in Hong Kong and China is excellent. But honestly I really occasionally need a hamburger. And I hate to be saying this, but what better place to go to get a hamburger than a bar here? Honestly they are good, but not as good as a home grilled hamburger made by dad. Now that is a burger I could enjoy right about now. So yeah I went tonight and picked up a hamburger at the bar with friends tonight after track practice. Every now and then it's okay to miss home and just grab a food or item that reminds you of home.
Especially now that exams season is starting extremely soon and OChem isn't doing me any favors.
The MTR and KCR merged on Sunday here, so to commemorate this, I thought I would post a picture they we took a long time ago at the University KCR station. Here is me and my Hong Kong twin:

Sadly this happened after the parents left because the merger would have been great for all of us while they were visiting because their hotel was located off of the Hung Hom station. It would have saved time since, but cost them more since before the merger you had to pay base rate on both rail companies. For me, it would have cost more because the student concession does not apply to the old KCR routes. Darn--that would have been nice.
But yeah, the MTR is still pretty awesome. That's going to be the hardest adjustment I think--getting everywhere faster by public transit than by car to only being able to drive again. Actually there are some hard ones coming, but they will probably remain unknown until I return to US.
I'm still adding oil for the finals!

1307--Some important missed items02 Dec, 2007 | Posted by: person63
So the first and most important thing that I have missed are some details with my parents being in Hong Kong. They visited for about a week and honestly they wore me out because we did so much. One of the biggest highlights was taking a ferry to Cheung Chau Island and seeing everything that is on there. This includes the small ambulances and firetrucks because most residents of the islands use bikes to get around. So just to give you an idea:
They were pretty cool because that is one thing that made the island stand out.
